I have a Bible app on my phone and chose a 10- Day Devotional called Overflow.I love it and am on my second time through. It was shared with this app by HopeUC. I would like to share it with you. Over the next few months. I hope it means as much to you as it does to me. I will add my two cents in when I feel it is needed. (I bet that doesn’t surprise you!)
From the very first pages of Scripture, God reveals Himself as the God of abundance. He spoke, and galaxies leapt into existence. He formed the seas and filled them with more creatures than we can count. He spread the skies with stars, each one unique. Creation itself tells the story of a God who doesn’t do the bare minimum, He is the God of overflow.
And yet, in our lives, how often do we live with a scarcity mindset? We wonder if we’ll have enough strength for tomorrow, enough provision to meet our needs, enough grace to cover our failures. Scarcity whispers, “You’re running out. You’ll never measure up. There’s not enough for you.”
But the gospel tells a different story. Paul declares that God is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine. That means His supply is beyond measurement, beyond imagination, beyond limitation. His heart is not stingy toward His children. He is not a God of “just enough to scrape by.” He is the God of “more than enough.”
David understood this when he wrote in Psalm 23:1 that he lacked nothing. Lack may surround us in the natural world, but in Christ, we live in a different reality. Our Shepherd not only meets our needs, He restores our souls, guides our steps, and prepares a table for us, even in the presence of our enemies.
Overflow begins when we believe this truth: God is not reluctant to bless. He delights in it. The cross is proof. Romans 8:32 reminds us that God not only gave His Son’s life for us all but also desires to graciously give us all things. If God has already given His very best in Jesus, we can trust Him to provide everything else we need.
But here’s the key: Overflow isn’t about storing up blessings for ourselves. It’s about letting His abundance flow to us and through us. When we live with open hands, His love, provision, and grace not only fill us but spill out into the lives of others. Overflow is meant to move outward.
As we begin this journey into the theme of overflow, let’s anchor our hearts in this truth: Scarcity is a lie; abundance is our reality in Christ. We don’t serve a God of barely enough, We serve a God of more than enough! A God of OVERFLOW!
