Starting a new business has been one of the most rewarding and frustrating things I’ve done in a long time. I had no idea how much work went into building a website. There were countless hours spent choosing colors, writing descriptions, uploading photos, changing layouts, fixing mistakes, and then changing things all over again. Just when I thought I had it right, I’d notice something else that needed to be adjusted.
More than once, I found myself wondering, “Why can’t I just get this finished?”
But every change made the website a little better. Every correction improved the final product. Looking back, I’m thankful I didn’t settle for “good enough” when something better was possible.
As I reflected on that process, I realized how much it resembles God’s work in our lives.
We often wish God would simply “finish” us. We want instant patience, instant wisdom, instant faith. We don’t enjoy the revisions, the waiting, or the lessons that require us to start over. Yet God, the Master Designer, sees things we cannot. He knows where adjustments are needed. He patiently shapes us, corrects us, teaches us, and refines us not because we’ve failed, but because He loves us too much to leave us unfinished.
Philippians 1:6 offers this wonderful promise:
“Being confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
God isn’t discouraged by our imperfections. He isn’t frustrated by the work that still needs to be done. He doesn’t give up when we make mistakes or have to learn the same lesson again. Instead, He continues His faithful work, knowing exactly what the finished masterpiece will look like.
Sometimes the revisions in our lives come through unexpected setbacks, difficult conversations, or disappointments. In the moment, they can feel inconvenient or even painful. But God never wastes a revision. Every experience has the potential to strengthen our faith, deepen our character, and draw us closer to Him.
As I continue building my business, I hope I remember that the same patience I needed with my website is the patience God extends to me every day. The process may be slower than I’d like, but He knows exactly what He’s creating.
