Usually, I try to write my Wednesday message on Monday. I never know what exciting challenges may pop up and require a great deal of my time. My problem this Monday was that I was drawing a blank. Then I had a conversation with my colleague and good friend Carolyn who shared the following quote with me. “You can do it like it’s a great weight, or you can do it like it’s a part of the dance.” I immediately thought, “That’ll preach.”
Life gives us responsibilities, challenges, and times in our livess that feel heavier than others. Some days the load on our shoulders seems more like a burden than a blessing, more like an obligation than an opportunity. And yet, this simple quote offers a profound spiritual truth: how we carry something matters just as much as what we are carrying.
Jesus never denied that life would be heavy at times. He acknowledged it plainly:
“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” — John 16:33
Some days the troubles stack up. Family stress, work expectations, decisions that don’t come easy, or worries that sneak into the quiet moments. We can carry these as if they are boulders strapped to our back, each step a struggle. Or, we can take our burden to Him.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest… For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” — Matthew 11:28–30
When we bring our burdens to Him, the weight doesn’t always disappear, but it becomes something we don’t carry alone. His presence changes our attitude. Instead of straining under the load, we find ourselves lifted by His strength.
What once felt like a great weight becomes something we can walk through with joy, trust, and even peace. It becomes, in a sense, part of the dance with Christ as the choreographer.
As you dance, Shine, Shine, Shine!
