Don’s sermon about sharing your faith Sunday, inspired me to write this week’s message. Yes, it sounds like so many that I send out, but I feel as though after recent events, people’s hearts have softened and might be more willing to hear the message of God’s love.
Now, I don’t know about you, but sometimes I feel like my light is more of a flickering nightlight than a full-blown lighthouse. Some days I’m beaming bright, other days I’m one dead battery away from total darkness. (School board members behaving badly have done that to me lately!) But here’s the good news: God doesn’t ask us to be perfect bulbs, just plugged in to Him.
Sharing our faith doesn’t mean we need to stand on a street corner with a megaphone or wear a giant sandwich board that says “Repent!” (though if that’s your calling, God bless you). Often, it looks more like everyday kindness with a little sparkle. A smile. A word of encouragement. A gentle “I’ll be praying for you.” Little things that shine big.
The truth is, people are drawn to light. No one walks into a dark room and says, “Wow, this is so cozy…I can’t see a thing!” No, we flip the switch. In the same way, when we live joyfully in Christ, people notice. They may even ask, “Why are you so cheerful, even on a Monday morning before coffee?” That’s our moment to share. Not with a sermon, but with sincerity.
So go ahead and shine…even if you feel more like a glow stick than a chandelier. Remember: glow sticks only shine after they’ve been broken. And sometimes, it’s in our brokenness that Christ’s light shines brightest.
Shine, Shine, Shine!
