Have you ever felt disoriented? Not physically lost, but emotionally or spiritually off course?
Several years ago, I wrote about the concept of finding your True North. I defined True North as your orienting point, your fixed point in a spinning world that helps you stay on track. It is derived from your most deeply held beliefs, values, and principles. It is your internal compass, unique to you, representing who you are at your deepest level.
Sunday, when I was laying flat on my back feeling sorry for myself, I felt like my compass had gone wonky. I thought about my True North and why I was feeling like I was going in 5 different directions and getting nowhere. I have been focused on the wrong thing.
God has given each of us a True Norh. It is found in His Word and in the life that Jesus Christ lived. When the world spins faster, when our schedules become crowded, and when life seems wonky, we must check our compass. God hasn’t moved. We have.
The good news is that God is remarkably patient with us. Throughout Scripture, He continually called His people back. He knew that the farther they drifted from Him, the harder it would be for them to recognize the path ahead and find their way again.
To help me get back to my True North, I ordered a spiral New Testament with areas to journal on each page. I felt God nudging me to really did a little deeper into His word. I will keep you posted as to the new revelations He shares with me.
One of my favorite verses helps me when I get “lost.” “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”Proverbs 3:5-6.
When life becomes noisy, God’s voice is still steady. When circumstances become uncertain, His promises remain sure. When our path seems unclear, His direction remains unchanged. Our True North is not a destination we must discover, it is a Savior we must continually follow.
Shine, Shine, Shine!
