Happy Wednesday!
Sunday night, while sitting on the front porch, I was bitten by a Yellow Hornet. I mean for such a small bug it packed a lot of punch. OUCH! As the evening progressed, my arm was really bothering me. I was surprised at how much the area around the sting hurt. Then my arm started to swell. I put hydrocortisone on it and figured it would be better the next day. Wrong. My arm had continued to swell and began to itch like crazy. Tuesday morning, it was even more swollen, itching and had developed little bubble blisters all over my arm and now hand. I went to CVS, saw the pharmacist, and was told how to treat it. As of now the itching is manageable but my arm and hand are still swollen.
I mention this because I don’t know how many times I have asked, “How can something so small cause so much pain and make that severe of an impact on my body?” I have asked the same question after being bitten by an ant. Because it is small, it doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a powerful punch.
I often think that Christians think, “I am a small fish in a big, huge pond. My actions don’t matter. People won’t take notice of me.” They couldn’t be more wrong. Each of us carries great power to impact the kingdom of God. We can impact it in a positive or negative way, it is up to us to make the right choice. It is the daily small choices and then actions that add up to make a positive impact.
Covenant is a small church. But that doesn’t stop us from making a difference in our community and around the world. I am one of millions, but that doesn’t keep me from making a difference in the lives of those around me. The hornet grabbed my attention, and we should work at grabbing the attention of others in a positive way. We are NOT inconsequential or unimportant.
1 Corinthians 12:14 says, “For the body does not consist of one member but of many.” Let’s do our part as individuals and then as a corporate body. We WILL make a difference.
Shine, Shine, Shine!
