The Garden
Sunday in church, dad talked about what a beautiful time of year it is. The different color greens, the azaleas in bloom, the yellow pollen everywhere…He also mentioned that he and Lee had planted their Spring Garden. We moved out to Newberry last April, so this is the first time I have been able to see the progress in the garden on a daily basis. One day there is dirt, the next day there are small green shoots coming up out of the ground. The one thing I do know is that dad and Lee must work hard to get what they have planted, to grow. The plants must be watered, fertilized, and then there are always the weeds. If they don’t get rid of the weeds, then they take over the garden and things don’t grow. It is a continual process. It is also a painful process. It’s tough on your back, your knees, and your hands. But it must be done.
The same goes for us. Do you have weeds in your life that are keeping you from growing and blossoming into who Christ wants you to be? Just as farmers must constantly tend to their crops, we must also work on ourselves. We need fertilizer and water too. To grow we must read the Bible and spend time with our Heavenly Father. We must come to church and fellowship with others and hear the Word of God. These things will help us grow. But the painful part of the process, is getting rid of the weeds. We must continually look for those things in our life that keep us from being who Christ wants us to be. Weeds could be materialism, work, friends that bring us down rather than lift us up, addiction, and the list goes on.
Jesus says, “I’m the true vine and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off very branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit, He prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.” John 15:1-2.
I know I need to do some weeding so that I can be more fruitful. (I need a weed-whacker!) What about you?
Shine, Shine, Shine!
