Wednesday Message 11/11/2020

— Happy Veterans Day!

I am so glad that Veterans Day landed on a Wednesday this year. I see such a parallel between the sacrifice our men and women in the military make for our country, and the amazing sacrifice Jesus Christ made to save us all from our sins.

It is so special that our fellow countrymen are willing to sacrifice their time with their family and friends, careers, and often their lives to guarantee that we remain free to make our own choices. Even though times are strained, we are fortunate to live in a wonderful country. Thanks to the men and women in uniform, we are safe and free.

Just as our freedom as an American does not come without a price, our freedom from sin did not come without a price. The grace given to us by Jesus’ death on the cross came with a huge sacrifice. Do we take our freedom as an American and as a child of God for granted? I know I do. But, how easy is it to say a quick thank you to someone you know served in the military. How easy is it to stop someone in uniform and say a heartfelt thank you? How easy is it to say thank you each day to our Heavenly Father for all the blessings he has bestowed upon us? It is easy!

As we approach the Holiday Season, (yes I’m binge watching the Hallmark Channel) let’s commit today to live with a thankful heart. We can begin today by thanking those who serve or have served. Tomorrow and beyond, we can offer sincere thanks for those whose lives make ours better. And each day, find time to thank our Lord Jesus Christ for loving us so much that He died on a cross.

John 15:13 says, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

To those of you who served, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Thank you for loving this country enough to lay aside your life for my freedom.

John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.”

Thank you, Lord!

Live with a grateful heart! It will put a spring in your step.
