February 11, 2020 Covenant YAH Meeting and Lunch 10 am to 2 pm
The Covenant YAH meeting was held today at Church with more than 21 attending. Teresa Robbins presided at the meeting and a wonderful devotion was delivered by Maurita and Vernon McKee. Larry Noegel presented his Humor and it was awesome. A Valentine themed Lunch was served after Pastor Carl spoke about his Missions in Brazil.
Pastor Carl’s Presentation:
Dressed in Brazilian hat and T-Shirt, Pastor Carl Romey talked about his call to become a Missionary in Brazil and the many changes in his life leading up to the journey to Brazil, in Brazil and back to the U. S. His story was so powerful because he felt the call to become a Missionary at 10 years old. Then, God, led him to want to become a Missionary in Brazil through a Missionary, Charles Gates, who touched him while in college. While his wait for the call to Brazil was along a hard and diverted path, he and Shirley finally received the call to go. They studied and read and prayed to prepare for their new life in Christ. He told about how difficult it was to land in a country, life in a neighborhood, where all spoke Portuguese. He and Shirley struggled to learn the language because bringing folks to accept Christ required a fluent use of Portuguese. He learned the culture, language, foods, art and made new friends in Brazil. He planted churches in many areas of Brazil and took the place of Charles Yates just as God had planned it for Carl. Carl said, “God makes a way when he wants something to happen.” And God wanted Pastor Carl to share Jesus Christ in Brazil.
Pastor Carl showed pictures, cookware, Copper Art and wood art that he and Shirley collected to bring the culture home with them. He told the story about being robbed of $40 on the street with a knife to his side. The robber returned and apologized for needing the money so badly and gave him enough for bus fare home. Pastor Carl’s message was so meaningful because he and Shirley were able to become bi-cultural: Brazil and US. His followers of Christ in Brazil still connect and his followers in the US know Jesus Christ through Carl’s Message.
