TGIF Covenant Update
TGIF
This week I find myself thankful for a number of things. I hope it might trigger some thankful thoughts in you as well.
- I am so thankful for my family. Cindy and I have been blessed to have been with our children and grandchildren and in-laws a lot this summer, spending quality time with all of them and really appreciating that time together. It’s not always easy, and it certainly is not always relaxing, but there is nothing better than time with family. God is good….. all the time.
- I am so thankful for the travel Cindy and I have had this summer, and will also have soon as we return to our favorite vacation spot on Hilton Head Island for two weeks, spending it with our family and more in-laws as we do every year. In addition to this old favorite vacation spot, we recently returned from a wonderful family trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, to see more of God’s many wonders that he has blessed us all with. In September, we will then return to our home towns in PA to see close family that we haven’t seen in two years due to COVID. It will be so good to finally see them all once again. God is good….. all the time.
- I am so thankful for the incredible health care system we have in our country and the amazing health care we have available to us in our community. We have two major and excellent health care systems in Shands and North Florida Hospital. We also have a major VA Hospital here and many talented doctors in private practice who chose Gainesville for their place of business, to give us many choices, and mostly affordable choices given our national health care system. This system has taken such good care of so many of our Covenant members these past few years – Carl and Edwina and Madge and Patsy and Bobby and so many others.
Now we can add Beverly and Larry Wurts to the list. We learned yesterday afternoon from Helen Ann that Larry and Beverly Wurts were both admitted to Shands. Don Mauldin was informed and went to Shands to see them. He got to visit with Beverly for about 30 minutes and had a nice visit. She has been cleared to return home today but will likely stay an extra day as her daughter-in-law will be out of town today. Larry is in a Shands rehab unit receiving rehab from a stroke he has suffered. We don’t know how long he will be there. But add Beverly and Larry now to your prayer list.
God is good….. all the time.
- Next Wednesday, Covenant will again support a feed the police barbeque at Covenant. Lee Pinkoson and Tony Domenech are planning to provide the cookout for the Gainesville and UPD police during their shift change next Wednesday, July 28, at 4 PM. We believe they will serve hamburgers and hot dogs, along with some sides. Due to the intense summer heat and frequent rain we have had this summer, they asked us if they could serve inside the church. The Trustees have granted this request as this is a mission that Covenant has had for a long time of feeding the police, and we wanted to support this effort. We will set up inside (like old times) to feed these dedicated professionals that protect our community. Covenant has offered to provide dessert for the meal of about 40 individuals. If you would like to contribute a dessert, or help serve the meal, you are welcome to participate!! Please have all desserts delivered to church by 3:30 PM next Wednesday and be there by 3:30 if you would like to serve the meal.
What an opportunity God is providing again for us to serve Him through this ministry and all the other ministries that Covenant supports throughout the year, from numerous local missions to those in Ghana and Brazil. God is good….. all the time.
Numbers 6:24-26 – The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
Dear Covenant Family:
I apologize but there is one other thing I needed to include in this morning’s message and I forgot. Don Mauldin wanted me to provide his phone number so that anyone who needed or wanted to contact him could do so. His local mobile number is 352-262-5349. Feel free to contact Don directly if you would like to for any reason.
