Covenant Update

Dear Covenant Family:

Today was a great day at Covenant Church, with 32 folks in attendance.  Remember that Covenant Church will celebrate July 4th after our July 6 service, with grilled ribs and chicken provided by Lee Pinkoson.  Covenant Church will provide drinks for lunch, and members are asked to bring their favorite dishes to share with others.

Prayer requests were then asked for by Larry Noegel by asking for prayers for Mickey Milam’s family as Mickey passed away last week.  Brenda Dolwick asked for prayers for her husband Frank who will undergo a procedure this Tuesday to have stents inserted to open up some blocked veins.  Michelle Miller asked for prayers for her son Luke and his wife Carolyn for the healthy birth of their baby due on July 2.  Becky Alexander asked for prayers for her upcoming visit with UF cancer doctors this week to determine how to proceed with treatment for her kidney cancer.  Rose Morgan asked for an update on Patsy Sutton who had knee surgery last week, and Pastor Don responded that it was too early for an update.  Ron Marks had a praise report for one of his granddaughters, Greer Bushman, who he was able to attend the 3 days of her softball camp at UF this past week, and was able to share many videotapes of her numerous practice areas with her parents.

The title of Pastor Don’s sermon today was Frustration, and he used numerous verses of scripture in sharing his message.

Pastor Don began with the following scripture, which he feels is the solution to frustration.

Philippians 4:8 – Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

He then shared the following scripture and suggested that getting angry will never serve as a solution for your frustration.

Ephesians 4:26 – Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger.

He finished by suggesting that the real answer to frustration is your hope in God, as illustrated by the following scripture.  When your true hope is in God, you won’t get frustrated.

Romans 5:3-4 – And not only this, but we also celebrate in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope.
