Dear Covenant Family:
We had a great service at Covenant today with 34 folks present. Prayer requests were made for a number of people. Darlene Sanchez has been in the hospital since Wednesday, and the doctors have not yet diagnosed her illness. Teresa Robbins’ daughter was in a car accident this past week. She has some injuries but is home now and recovering. Kim Haddow is in the middle of her chemotherapy treatment and had a very difficult week. Also, a friend of Larry and Helen Ann’s was also injured in a car accident. Please keep these people in your prayers this coming week.
Attached is the church bulletin from today with some additional information for you. Also attached is the church calendar for June with information for the month.
Pastor Don’s sermon today was on “Frustration” and how we should respond to it. Hie main scripture was:
1 Samuel 18:10-11 – Now it came about on the next day that an evil spirit from God rushed upon Saul, and he raved in the midst of the house while David was playing the harp with his hand, as usual; and a spear was in Saul’s hand. 11 Then Saul hurled the spear, for he thought, “I will pin David to the wall.” But David escaped from his presence, twice.
Saul was frustrated because David got more praise and love than he did from God’s followers, so his frustration led him to try and kill David. God doesn’t want us to get frustrated because it can easily lead to anger – a tool of the devil, which can then divert us from following God’s plan for us. God will deliver us if we don’t get frustrated!! God wants us to be calm like David, in his playing of the harp to sooth his mind and his body
Ephesians 6:4 – Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
Pastor Don also quoted this message from Ephesians, as he commented that frustration can also harm family relationships, and we need to protect those relationships, and lead our families in a Godly manner. Don closed his sermon by noting that there is a lot of frustration in the world today, there are too many instances reported in the news of people being killed by others whose frustration is turning into anger and into decisions made that are altering lives forever. We need to understand there is a better way and we need to turn to God for His love and hope for us.
2 Corinthians 12:9 – And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.
Pastor Don also quoted this scripture, as it was what God told Paul as Paul was experiencing his difficulties. This is the message we need to follow in our lives, and choose peace and God’s grace over frustration and anger.
Is something making you frustrated today? Turn to God for His help. David exhibited his heart for God in his life, like we should also. God will help us get through our problems and avoid frustration, if only we have a heart like David.
May God bless this coming week for you and your loved ones.
