Dear Covenant Family:

Yesterday we had a very good Memorial Day service.  The focus was on remembering our countrymen who have made the ultimate sacrifice and have given their lives for their country.  Attached is the bulletin for our service.  Don Mauldin provided the sermon, and it tied in nicely with the focus of the day on Keeping A Promise.  Please read the scripture Don used, Joshua 1:1-11, to see how Joshua was used by God to continue the mission of Moses to claim the promised land of the Jews.

Patsy Sutton will be having heart surgery tomorrow, so please keep Patsy and Bobby in your prayers.  Also, Virginia Phillips is still recovering from COVID19 so please keep her in your prayers as well.  It was good to have Teresa Robbins and Marilyn Bishop back in church, they were missed while they were out.

Below is the anthem that our church choir sang yesterday and sings every year for our Memorial Day service.  I also provide the words below because it is such a beautiful song honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and given their lives for their country.  Thanks to Tina and the ensemble for their continuing commitment to God through their beautiful and inspiring music!!

BLADES OF GRASS AND PURE WHITE STONES

Blades of grass and pure white stone,     Shelter those who’ve come and gone
Just below the emerald sod are boys who’ve reached the arms of God
Buried here,      With dignity,      Endless rows for all to see
Freedom’s seed,              In sorrow sown
‘Neath blades of grass and pure white stones
Blades of grass and pure white stones
Cover those who’ve left their home
To rest in fields here side by side,            Lest we forget their sacrifice
Buried here,      With dignity,      Endless rows for all to see
Freedom’s seeds,            In sorrow sown
‘Neath blades of grass and pure white stone
(Solo) Just below the emerald sod (ooh)
Are boys who’ve reached the arms of god
(Full choir) Buried here with dignity
Endless rows for all to see
Freedom’s seeds in sorrow sown
‘Neath blades of grass and pure white stones
Blades of grass… And… Pure… White… Stones
(Ooh)

May you all have a very blessed, peaceful, and safe Memorial Day!
