Covenant Update

Dear Covenant Church Family:

Today was a great day at Covenant Church, with 26 folks in attendance.  Please note that Covenant will host its annual Thanksgiving Dinner on Sunday, November 23, at 5 PM.  Covenant will provide the turkey, ham, and drinks, and we ask each family attending to bring a vegetable, salad, or dessert to share with others.  Feel free to invite friends and family members to attend with you.

We had quite a few prayer requests made today, and a few praises.  Tina Pinkoson reported that Becky’s surgery went well on Friday, she is now stable and in ICU, and she rested well last night.  Patsy Sutton shared that Bobby will have a medical procedure this coming Wednesday, and she asked for prayers for him.  Rose Morgan said that Donna Wegener (Edwina Hope’s daughter) informed her that Jamie Hope (Edwina’s son) had a heart attack.  Tina Pinkoson also reported that a former employee of hers, Danielle Lee, has just been diagnosed with Stage 4 mesothelioma, and Tina asked for prayers for Danielle and her caretaker mother.  Don Mauldin asked for prayers for David Roy who had a stem cell transplant last Tuesday and for his friend Travis, 37 years old, who has had colon cancer occur for the third time.  Larry Noegel asked for prayers for the family of Dale Russell who passed away in Gainesville recently.  Diane Mauldin asked for prayers for her nephew David who is on a mission trip out of the country; she requested that we pray for his safe travels and return.  Bill Mercado asked for prayers for his sister in Puerto Rico who has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.

Missy Mauldin shared praise for a high school student of hers who just committed his life to Jesus.  Helen Ann Noegel gave a praise to a group of GHS graduates who meet at a local cemetery each year to remember the soldiers on Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

Pastor Don’s sermon today was on dealing with darkness in our lives, and he began with the following scripture.

Psalm 139:8-12 – If I ascend to heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there.  If I take up the wings of the dawn, if I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, 10 Even there Your hand will lead me, and Your right hand will take hold of me.  11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will overwhelm me, and the light around me will be night,”  12 Even darkness is not dark to You, and the night is as bright as the day.  Darkness and light are alike to You.

Don began by stating that understanding darkness is not easy, we often don’t know what to do.  We need God’s light to help us.  God can be seen as our lighthouse, in that He can safely get us to shore.  God is still the light of our world.  If you would like to listen to this sermon, all recorded sermons can be accessed at https://gainesvillecovenantchurch.org/ and then choose Sermons on the home page, and then choose today’s message.

I wish all of you a most blessed week this coming week.
