Covenant Update

Dear Covenant Family:

Today was a great day at Covenant, with 28 folks in attendance.  Remember that we will have a brief business meeting after church next Sunday, so please plan to attend that short meeting.  Also, please remember our Thanksgiving dinner on November 23 at 5 PM.  Covenant will provide the turkey and ham, and all drinks.  We ask each church member to also bring their favorite vegetable, salad, or dessert to share with others.

We had a number of prayer requests today.  Carol Parker reminded everyone that Becky will have her kidney with active cancer removed next Friday.  Tina provided additional input that Becky’s doctors are trying to balance her insulin and blood sugar.  Helen Ann Noegel reminded us all to keep the entire Mercado family in our prayers throughout Becky’s health issues.  Larry Noegel asked for prayers for the family of Larry Ridley, who passed away a few days ago in Gainesville.  Missy Mauldin mentioned that we should keep all the people in Jamaica and Cuba in our prayers because those islands have had major damage from the recent hurricane that passed over both islands.

We also had two praise reports today.  Michelle Miller had a praise report for her daughter Lindsay and husband Colin who are expecting their second child in a few months.  Finally, Larry Noegel had a praise for Mack Vlacos, who shared with Larry many John Wayne videos that he had taped; Larry will be glad to share any of those tapes with anyone who has an interest in seeing those movies.

Pastor Don’s scripture today was on how we all get tired physically and spiritually at times.  He based his message on the following scripture:

Matthew 11:28 – Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

We often pretend everything is OK, when we know it is not good.  Sometimes, we then get tired of waiting for things to change and get better.  However, God tells us to “Come to me!”  God helps us to slow down when we get tired.  When we can no longer handle our load, we need to turn it over to Jesus.  Fixing it is in the hands of God.  We need to slow down, listen to Him, and follow His message.  If you would like to listen to this sermon, all recorded sermons can be accessed at https://gainesvillecovenantchurch.org/ and then choose Sermons on the home page, and then choose today’s message.

I wish all of you a most blessed week this coming week!

Ron
