Dear Covenant Family:
Today was a grateful day at Covenant. We were very blessed to have 35 people in attendance, with the great news being that Edwina made it back today, after her long 4 month illness! It was great to have Edwina back, along with her daughter Donna. Also, we shared two special anniversaries today – Bill and Ramona Mercado celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary today and Bobby and Patsy Sutton celebrate their 65th anniversary this Tuesday – God is good all the time, all the time God is good!!!!
Attached is the bulletin from today’s service. Note that this month our ministry is Bread of the Mighty Food Bank, which we always serve this time of year due to the increased need for food of needy families around the holiday season. Either food or money can be donated but money is preferred because BMFB can buy the needed food at a lower cost than we pay in the grocery store.
Also, next Sunday night at 6 PM, Covenant will be holding its annual Thanksgiving dinner. Covenant will provide the turkey, dressing, and drinks. We ask each family attending to bring their favorite vegetable dish, salad, or dessert to share with others. Feel free to invite family and friends, and let’s have a great pre-Thanksgiving dinner together next Sunday.
Pastor Don’s sermon today was titled Give Thanks With a Grateful Heart and his scripture was Psalm 107. The first 3 verses read:
Psalm 107:1-3 – Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His mercy is everlasting. 2 The redeemed of the Lord shall say so, those whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy 3 and gathered from the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south.
Verse 1 tells us to give thanks to the Lord in all things and all year long, not just from Thanksgiving through Christmas. Verse 2 tells us to tell others why we are thankful, make our light to shine for them, so they can see our gratefulness to Him. Verse 3 tells us that God wants to bless all of us. However, it is hard to be grateful if you are greedy. Greediness will lead to making bad decisions which will only compound over time. A grateful heart motivates you to be grateful. I suggest reading the rest of Psalm 107 (43 verses) and see how God always cared for the grateful and punished the greedy.
Finally, Tina’s Wednesday message from November 3 was related to verse 2 from today’s sermon because thankfulness leads to kindness towards others. Tina’s message told us we need to share kindness with others, and gave us specific instructions how to do so. Today in church Tina told us the story of how she shared kindness with her postal delivery man with a note of appreciation, and he now delivers her mail packages to her door instead of leaving them out by the mailbox. Then today at church Betty Arnette shared two messages with me about kindness. They read –
No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted ….. and
Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
These are the reasons why we had such a grateful day at Covenant. May God bless your upcoming week and make you grateful for being able to share kindness with others!
