Dear Covenant Family:
Today was a good day at Covenant with 29 attendees at our service. Note in the attached bulletin from today’s service that in two weeks on Sunday November 21 we will have our re-started annual Thanksgiving dinner starting at 6 PM. Covenant will provide the turkey and dressing and drinks. Church members are asked to bring one of their favorite vegetable, salad, or dessert dishes to share with others. Also, feel free to bring family and friends if you wish. This meal was always an annual highlight at Covenant Church, and we are glad we can offer it once again.
Our ministry for November is the Bread of the Mighty Food Bank, which is a local charitable group feeding the hungry and homeless in our community. Check the bulletin for more details on their services provided. We will deliver to them all the food and money we collect up until Thanksgiving. Note that you can donate either money or canned goods, however, they prefer money as they can buy food at a lower cost than we can buy it in the grocery stores.
Pastor Don’s sermon today was titled Conviction of Convenience. His scripture was Joshua 14:7-12, which deals with Caleb’s request as the land of Canaan was now being distributed to the Israelites. Don noted that many of the Israelites had a “convenient” belief in their 45-year journey rather than a “conviction” as did Caleb. Don noted that today it is not convenient to be a church member in our pagan world or convenient to go to church on a cold rainy day (like we had all weekend !). You can only have a conviction if you make a commitment to it. So we need to make a commitment and stick to it to be a faithful servant to our loving God who has shown all of us He has all we need in our lives.
Wishing you all a very blessed, safe, and peaceful week ahead!
Ron
