Dear Covenant Family:
Yesterday was a great service at Covenant, with 37 folks in attendance. Attached is today’s bulletin, so you can keep up with our ministries. This month we are supporting hurricane relief, to support Florida folks in south Florida affected by Ian and folks in Puerto Rico which was recently damaged by Fiona. October has 5 Sundays so we will be collecting paper goods and cleaning supplies for Pine Grove and also toiletries for needy students at Newberry High School.
Also attached is the Covenant October calendar with all church activities listed. Note the YAH group will meet tomorrow, October 11, at Covenant at 10:30 AM for its monthly meeting to be followed by going out to lunch afterward. Everyone is invited to attend the meeting and go to lunch.
It is sad to report that Beverly Wurts, a long time member of Covenant, went home to the Lord last week. The family will hold a memorial service for Beverly this Friday, October 14, at Covenant Church at 4 PM, to be followed by a meal for the family and friends. Covenant members are invited to attend the service and meal if you would like. Other prayer requests are asked for Larry Noegel whose cousin died in Georgia this week, and for a friend of Victoria MacArthur who many years ago had her nose bitten off by a dog, was disfigured all these years, but now may have life altering surgery to repair her face. Finally, prayer requests are asked for Francis Bush’s friend Judy whose nephew Steven died recently.
Also note that today was Clergy Appreciation Day, so Tina gave a nice statement to the church about how much we appreciate Pastor Don. When Pastor Don then later started his sermon, he mentioned that it is always nice to appreciate people in your life, your family and close friends. He then went into his sermon titled Another Man’s Sermon and the scripture is from Acts 10. I suggest you read Acts 10 to get the complete story here. He mentioned that this chapter of Acts is all about Cornelius caring for his family and friends when he asked for the Apostle Peter to share God’s Word and His promise with them.
We learn in this scripture that God doesn not have any favorites, anybody and everybody is welcome in God’s service. We all need to open our eyes and see what God is telling us to do. The bottom line is we should all find ways to positively impact our family and friends.
May God bless this week for you and your family!
Ron
