Dear Covenant Family:
Today was a great day at Covenant Church, we had 31 folks in attendance. Attached is the bulletin from today’s service, note that our ministry for September is the Bread of the Mighty Food Bank. Also note that we have collected paper and cleaning goods for Pine Grove this month and toiletries for Newberry High School since there are five Sundays in September. Note that we are hoping to have a Peanut Boil sometime in October but we are still waiting to hear from peanut farmers when peanuts might be available for us. Also, please note Tina’s added Think About It comments in the bulletin, they are great food for thought.
We had a number of prayer requests today. Shirley Romey asked for prayers for her as she is taking Carl’s remains to Indiana this week for them to be buried in his home town in Indiana this Saturday, which would also be Carl’s birthday. Carolyn Vlacos asked for prayers for her daughter whose home received significant damage from Hurricane Helene. Larry Noegel asked for prayers for three individuals – Mickey Milam fell and broke his rib, Larry’s neighbor also broke a rib, and Fred Pearson fell in the shower and cut his head, and missed two dialysis treatments this week due to his injury and Hurricane Helene. Maurita McKee asked for traveling mercies for her son Mike and his family who are traveling to vacation for a month-long vacation. Tina Pinkoson asked for prayers for all the folks in Steinhatchee and throughout Florida and the southeast US who have lost everything due to Hurricane Helene.
Pastor Don began his sermon time today telling us that we need to be a church that prays together. He suggested for us to pray as a church for all the things going on in our world right now that are making lives difficult for many people. Pastor Don started the prayer time and then numerous church folks also gave prayers for the things on their individual hearts that we need to pray for right now, like the impact of Hurricane Helene on the SE US, the impact on all our lives these days from the turmoil in our country and the global issues we all face. This prayer session went on for about 15 minutes and then Don concluded it with his closing prayer. We then celebrated communion as a family together and then closed the service. It was a different sermon than usual, but I believe it was quite impactful and certainly anyone could speak what was on their heart.
Cindy and I will be going back up to DC for the next two weeks, so we will miss all of you while we are gone. May God continue to bless Covenant Church and all of you!
Ron
