Covenant Update

Dear Covenant Family:

We had a great service at Covenant today, with 32 members and friends in attendance.  Attached is today’s church bulletin, with important information for you.  Please remember that our ministry for September is hurricane relief both in Florida and Hawaii.  Also remember that next Sunday, September 24, Covenant will host its 2nd Annual Peanut Boil (in 3 years!) at 4 PM.  Pastor Don will prepare the boiled peanuts and Covenant will provide cold drinks and ice cream, which were both quite popular at our 1st Annual Peanut Boil.  If anyone is interested in bringing one of their favorite desserts, feel free to do so to share with everyone.  We had a great time two years ago, and we look forward to another great event for everyone to visit and talk with other church members and friends.

Helen Ann Noegel asked for continued prayers for Carolyn and Mack Vlacos who are doing OK right now but still need our prayers as they both continue to still have health issues.  Missy Mauldin also asked for continued prayers for a teacher in her school whose brother has been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, however, right now he is pain free and the cancer seems contained so they believe the prayers are helping.  Shaw Grigsby asked for prayers for his friend Doug who had to have a toe removed due to a long term injury he has had, but the doctors were able to save his leg.

We also had a number of praise reports today.  Maurita McKee reported that she and Vernon were returning from Virginia where they visited her sister and they had requested wheelchairs to be able to get through the connecting airports.  However, their wheelchairs were not available in their connecting city so they missed their flight to Gainesville.  However, they ran into an angel named Becky Alexander (church member who is a flight attendant for the airline the McKees had flown) who made sure they got on the next plane to Gainesville.  Also, Tina Pinkoson asked for praises for Lee who has had three biopsies for a form of cancer that he has, and the latest biopsy continues to show minimal change in the detectable cancer.  Frank Dolwick also had praises for a 97 year-old friend of he and Brenda who just went home to be with the Lord, but was a wonderful person who enjoyed a very happy and healthy life.

Pastor Don gave another meaningful sermon on how to live a happy life.  The scripture he used was from 1 Thessalonians 5:1-15.  His main point was to quit complaining and appreciate the life God has given you, that looking forward with happiness is what life is all about.  If you missed church today, I encourage you to listen to Pastor Don’s sermon at https://gainesvillecovenantchurch.org/ and then choose Sermons on the home page, and then choose the sermon you want to hear.  Remember that you also get a bonus when you listen to his sermon because you will also get to hear the anthem sung by the Sounds of Hope today.  What a bonus!  I would like to thank Craig Alexander for taking on the weekly assignment of taping the anthem and Pastor Don’s sermon, and making sure it gets to our website each week.  Thank you Craig!

I wish you all a very blessed week and look forward to seeing many of you at the peanut boil next Sunday at 4 PM.

Ron
