Covenant Update

Dear Covenant Church Family:

Today was a great day at Covenant, with 33 members and friends in attendance at our church service.  Attached is the bulletin from today’s service.  Note that our ministry for September is Hurricane Relief where we would like to support both Hurricane Idalia that caused major damage in Florida and the SE US, as well as the tragic fire that destroyed the town of Lahaina in Maui, which was caused by a concurrent hurricane.

Also note that The YAH group will meet again beginning in September after taking a break during the summer.  The next meeting will be this Tuesday at 10:30 AM at Covenant Church with attendees planning to go to lunch after the meeting.

Another important message is that Covenant will host another Peanut Boil like we did 2 years ago on Sunday, September 24 at 4 PM.  Pastor Don will get the peanuts and will boil them for our get together.  Drinks and ice cream will be provided by the church and attendees are asked to bring any desserts they would like to share.  Note that we tried to have a Peanut Boil last fall but were unable to due to no peanuts being available due to heavy rains that flooded the fields.

We had a number of prayer requests today.  Larry Noegel noted that Mack Vlacos fell recently and broke his hip, he has returned home from the hospital but is having a difficult time with his mobility.  Larry also noted that Jimbo Rao, a founder of Covenant Church, died recently so he asked for prayers for the Rao family.  Vernon McKee asked for traveling mercies for he and Maurita who will soon be traveling to Virginia Beach, VA to visit Maurita’s sister.  Patsy Sutton had a praise report for her 2 year-old nephew who was diagnosed with leukemia but just found out it is in remission.  Anita Minck asked for both prayers and praises for her daughter who will soon be taking a 75-mile hike.

Pastor Don gave a sermon today titled When Things Are Going Wrong, and the scripture for it was James 5:7-12.  A key point of Pastor Don’s sermon was that there is something else coming, so stay the course!  If you missed church today, I encourage you to listen to Pastor Don’s sermon at https://gainesvillecovenantchurch.org/ and then choose Sermons on the home page, and then choose the sermon you want to hear.

I wish you all a very blessed week, and hope to see you all at the Peanut Boil!

Ron
