Covenant Update
Dear Covenant Family:
Yesterday was another good day at Covenant. We had 24 folks in attendance today and the bulletin is attached for your information. Note that our ministry for September will be the local Bread of the Mighty Food Bank. Given the current impact of inflation on our economy, all food banks are experiencing increased demand for food so we hope that Covenant can support this important local ministry this month. Note that Covenant donated $1,010 to the August ministry of Food 4Kids backpack program to support needy children at local schools. Thanks to everyone who donated to this ministry!
Also note that the YAH group will begin its meetings again this month. The next meeting will be Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at 10:30 AM at Covenant Church. Attendees will go to lunch after the meeting. Future meetings are scheduled for the second Tuesday of each month at 10:30 AM.
We had good news that Rafael Sanchez was not only home, but also recovered from his Covid and high blood pressure. His wife Darlene took him to the ER Friday suffering from serious Covid and also high blood pressure. He was given an infusion treatment for the Covid and blood pressure meds and recovered quickly from both situations. Note that Darlene also got Covid but her case was mild. God bless modern medicine and the power of prayer!
Pastor Don’s sermon was titled Living With Fear and his scripture was Psalms 57:1-5 and Matthew 10:28.
Psalms 57:1-5 – Be gracious to me, God, be gracious to me, for my soul takes refuge in You; and in the shadow of Your wings I will take refuge until destruction passes by. 2 I will cry to God Most High, to God who accomplishes all things for me. 3 He will send from heaven and save me; he rebukes the one who tramples upon me. Selah, God will send His favor and His truth. 4 My soul is among lions; I must lie among those who devour, among sons of mankind whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue is a sharp sword. 5 Be exalted above the heavens, God; may Your glory be above all the earth.
Pastor Don began by noting we all have fears of some things. Our fears may not always be rational, but they are real. This Psalm was written by David, who was a very brave soldier and King for many years, but he still knew he needed to depend on God’s help to get through his trials and fears. We need to remember that we are never alone to deal with our fears, God is always there for us if we reach out to Him. Like David, we need to find refuge under God’s wings until our problems pass by, because they will if we trust Him.
Pastor Don then finished with Matthew 10:28 – And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
We can’t let fear destroy our joy and belief, and we need to be willing to live under His wings until the shine shines again in our lives. In spite of all the problems we face right now in our world, we can find comfort knowing that God is watching over us. The bottom line is we need to worry about what God thinks, not man.
Have a very blessed week!
Ron
