I have missed the last 2 Sundays in sending out our weekly church service update because Cindy and I were out of town on our annual family summer vacation on Hilton Head Island. We are back now and had a great time with our family.
Today was another good day at Covenant Church. We had 32 members and friends attend today’s service. Don gave an excellent sermon on “A Little Help” based on the scripture in Galatians 6:1-10. Don spoke about the need for us to help others, and not to judge who might be in God’s favor…… and who is not! His message was help anyone in need, be generous, and do good…… and you will be rewarded accordingly. If you were not there today to hear Don’s message, I ask you to read this beautiful and timely scripture for how we should live our lives every day. Attached is today’s program, be sure to check out the 2 stories Tina added under Have a Laugh.
Don provided us feedback on Edwina and Madge. Edwina has been moved from the hospital to a health care facility to continue her recovery. She is now beginning to eat some food and is improving so please keep the cards and well wishes going to her. The clinical trial that Madge has been in has now ended so she is back to taking the chemotherapy pills that she had previously been taking. So please continue to pray for Edwina and Madge, and their families.
We have 2 ministries this month because August is a 5-Sunday month. In those months, we collect paper and cleaning products for our friends at Pine Grove. Contributions are beginning to add up in the corner at the church entrance, so continue to bring those goods, and we will deliver them to Pine Grove in early September.
Our other ministry is the Food4Kids Backpack program. This program is to provide food for school age children to take home with them for the weekends if they are in need of food. This is a very important Covenant ministry to make sure that school age children have the food needed to sustain them so they can be productive in their school work. We heard from Missy Mauldin today that over 50% of students in some well-known local schools qualify for this program. So be generous in your cash donations for this important ministry to help our young folks. During the discussion in church, we also learned of the need for high school students to have toiletries for their proper hygiene. So while you are at Dollar General buying paper and cleaning products for Pine Grove, if you want to add a few toiletries (such as deodorant, shampoo, or toothpaste) to the list for us to contribute to local high school students, we will have a box at Covenant to collect any of these toiletry contributions and provide to a local high school. Think about Don’s sermon today…… and if you can dig a little deeper this month to help our local elderly and school age folks in need, to provide A Little Help.
Finally, note in the bulletin that Covenant Church’s contribution to Bread of the Mighty Food Bank in July provided 12,000 meals for local people. That should make us all feel very good!!!
Also, Don is trying to reach all our members by phone so that he can meet everyone. Unfortunately, our phone records are not as up to date as they need to be so he is having difficulty reaching some people. If you receive these messages and would like to meet with Don, please call him at 352-262-5349, and he would be glad to come to you and meet you.
That is the news for this week. Remember always that God is good….. all the time!! All the time….. God is good. May God bless your week!!!!!
