Dear Covenant Church Family:
Today was a great day at Covenant, with 30 folks in attendance. We celebrated Covenant’s 39th anniversary today, with Krispy Kreme donuts, coffee, and orange juice. Pastor Don’s sermon today focused on our anniversary, and contributions made throughout our history. I will report on that later on when we review his sermon.
We had a prayer request and multiple praise reports today. A praise was raised for Michelle’s new granddaughter, born to her daughter Lindsay this week, mother and daughter are doing well. Ron Marks asked for prayers for peace in our country and world after last night’s attack on President Trump and due to the war in Iran. Pastor Don asked for prayers for rain which we desperately need throughout Florida. Missy Mauldin had a number of prayer requests – (1) the importance of sharing God with others so all will know that He will someday return to earth, (2) she is going to Bolivia in June with friends with whom she went to Cuba last summer on a mission trip, and (3) she asked for prayers for the family of a friend of hers who died recently. Shaw Grigsby asked for prayers for a friend (who was in church today with he and Polly today) who is staying with them as she completes therapy. Becky Alexander asked for prayers for her mother who fell this morning, is OK, but was unable to come to church. Helen Ann Noegel asked for continued prayers for Carolyn Vlacos who is hospitalized for hernia repair, and will soon move to therapy before she can return home. Diana Mauldin asked for prayers for Sam Parker, who was unable to be there today due to health issues. Carol Parker then asked for continued prayers for a friend of hers who is fearful of pending open heart surgery, please pray for her to find peace.
Pastor Don gave his sermon today using this scripture:
Psalms 77: 11-13 – I shall remember the deeds of the Lord; I will certainly remember Your wonders of old. 12 I will meditate on all Your work, and on Your deeds with thanksgiving. 13 Your way, God, is holy; what god is great like our God?
Pastor Don began his message by saying we needed to remember all the things that God has done for us. God has good things in store for His children. Life is remembering stories that God has shared with us over time. Regarding the celebration of our 39th anniversary, Pastor Don suggested we need to remember the stories of this church that have mattered to the community. He told a story of a woman who used a church member to babysit her children while they lived here, and many years later that woman told Don how much of a positive impact that had on her life. We need to remember and share the comfort and well being that God provides for us routinely. He concluded his message today that Covenant Church has a story that is still being told. If you would like to listen to this sermon, all recorded sermons can be accessed at https://gainesvillecovenantchurch.org/ and then choose Sermons on the home page, and then choose today’s message.
I wish all of you a most blessed week.
