Covenant Update

Dear Covenant Family:

Yesterday was a great day at Covenant, we had 35 folks in attendance.  Attached is today’s bulletin, with some more Sentence Sermons from Tina, be sure to check them out.  Next Sunday is Palm Sunday and we would like to encourage anyone interested to bring an Easter lilly to church for display up front and in honor or memory of a loved one.  Please then take your Easter lilly home after the Easter service.  Also, April is a 5-Sunday month so remember to bring your donations for both Pine Grove and Newberry High School.  Missy Mauldin suggested that deodorant, shampoo and feminine products are especially needed for the Newberry school hygiene supplies.   Also note that Sunday, April 30, Covenant will offer Communion so please mark your calendars.

New prayer requests are asked for Bill Mercado’s brother Miguel who has been hospitalized in New York for 3 months, 2 unstated requests from Victoria McArthur, for the family of a long-time friend of  Sam Parker who just died, for a 95 year old friend of Maurita McKee who is hospitalized after a nasty fall, and for Carolyn Vlacos who is bedridden with a bad cold.  Praise reports from previous prayer requests are that Darlene Sanchez has had her surgery but is waiting on determining its success, Diane Mauldin’s friends have returned home from visiting their missionary child,  and Teresa Robbins has returned home from rehab.  Continued requests are asked for Mack Vlacos, Carol King, Patsy Sutton, Missy Mauldin’s missionary friends in Spain, and Carl Romey.

Pastor Don’s sermon was titled A Person of Compassion, and his scripture was from Matthew 8:2-3, Matthew 15:22-28, and Matthew 20:30-34.  Those verses are:

Matthew 8:2-3 – And a man with leprosy came to Him and bowed down before Him, and said, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” Jesus reached out with His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

Matthew 15:22-28 – And a Canaanite woman from that region came out and began to cry out, saying, “Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is severely demon-possessed.” 23 But He did not answer her with even a word. And His disciples came up and urged Him, saying, “Send her away, because she keeps shouting at us!” 24 But He answered and said, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” 25 But she came and began to bow down before Him, saying, “Lord, help me!” 26 Yet He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” 27 And she said, “Yes, Lord; but please help, for even the dogs feed on the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.” 28 Then Jesus said to her, “O woman, your faith is great; it shall be done for you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed at once.

Matthew 20:30-34 – And two people who were blind, sitting by the road, hearing that Jesus was passing by, cried out, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!” 31 But the crowd sternly warned them to be quiet; yet they cried out all the more, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” 32 And Jesus stopped and called them, and said, “What do you want Me to do for you?” 33 They said to Him, “Lord, we want our eyes to be opened.” 34 Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes; and immediately they regained their sight and followed Him.

Unfortunately, we were unable to tape today’s sermon, so it will not be available on our Covenant website.  Hopefully, you will see from these three offered verses that Jesus was a man of compassion and Pastor Don’s sermon was about how we need to show compassion to the needy as well in our lives.

I pray that you all will have a very blessed week of preparation for Palm Sunday.
