Dear Covenant Family:
Today was a great day at Covenant Church!. We had 30 folks in attendance (plus 2 that showed up just as church was ending because they forgot to turn their clocks an hour ahead!). Attached is today’s bulletin with important information for you.
Please note that members are invited to bring Easter lilies to church on Palm Sunday in honor or memory of loved ones. Each person is encouraged to then take their lilies home with them after our Easter morning service.
A continuing Prayer Request was asked for Mack and Carolyn Vlacos. Mack is now home from the hospital but still with breathing issues. Bill Mercado asked for traveling mercies for Becky Alexander who is on a work trip to Germany. Maurita McKee asked for prayer requests for Anita Minck who is having some health issues. Patsy Sutton reported that all went well with her daughter Karen’s surgery this week, and the doctors are hopeful they got all the cancer removed, and that no radiation therapy may be needed. They will need to wait 10 days for final decisions until the biopsy results are sent back.
Pastor Don’s sermon today was titled The Gospel According to Louie (Don’s father). The focus of the sermon was how to maintain a successful life. He had three scriptures he used. They are:
John 8:31-32 – So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly My disciples; 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
2 Thessalonians 3:10 – For even when we were with you, we used to give you this order: if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either.
Hebrews 10:25 – not abandoning our own meeting together, as is the habit of some people, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.
Don made the point that we are each responsible for our own salvation, so we need (1) to continue to know God’s Word, (2) be honest, and (3) know the Truth. Don’s sermon was excellent as always, and I strongly suggest you listen to it if you could not be at church today. All sermons can be accessed at https://gainesvillecovenantchurch.org/ and then choose Sermons on the home page, and then choose the sermon you want to hear.
I wish for each of you the most blessed Lent experience and most peaceful and joyful Easter.
Ron
