Dear Covenant Family:
Today was a great service at Covenant Church, with 30 folks in attendance. Attached is today’s bulletin for your information. Please note the Sunday Sing-Along that will be held on March 23 where Pastor Don’s sermon time will be used to sing a number of our church’s favorite Christian songs. Also note the funny notes Tina provides under You Know You’re in a Redneck Church if ….
We had a number of prayer requests today. Helen Ann Noegel reported that both Mack and Carolyn Vlacos have had a very difficult week and that their daughter from Augusta GA is now with them at their home providing care. Patty Sanders was in church today and thanked the church for its prayers in the loss of her son, she asked for continued prayers for herself and her other son Scott who is taking his brother’s death very hard. Becky Alexander asked for continued prayers in her latest battle with kidney cancer, and she is pleased that she may now be able to receive her surgery at the Moffitt Cancer Center at the University of South Florida in Tampa; however, her insurance coverage is still in limbo. Missy Mauldin asked for prayers for her students who will soon be taking Spanish speaking exams. Larry Noegel had a praise report for the Archer Rangers, a baseball team that played many years ago. Larry and Paul MacArthur both played for this team in its heyday and both were able to attend this special get together recently.
Pastor Don’s sermon today was on the entire book of Job. This book is often hailed as describing “the patience of Job” while, in reality, Job had more questions than he did patience as he went through the travails that greatly impacted his life. Chapter 1 in Job identifies all the blessings that Job has in his life and then how Satan was allowed into Job’s life to challenge him. Job then lost all his treasures and his health. The only scripture that Don specifically references in his sermon is Job’s confession in the final 42nd chapter of Job:
Job 42:3-4 – ‘Who is this who conceals advice without knowledge?’ Therefore I have declared that which I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I do not know. 4 ‘Please listen, and I will speak; I will ask You, and You instruct me.’
Job eventually knew that God would take care of him, and that God will care for all of us. In the end of Job chapter 42, God restored all of Job’s fortunes twofold and blessed his life for a total of 140 years.
