Dear Covenant Family:
Today was a great day at Covenant Church, with 36 people in attendance. Attached is the bulletin from today’s service, please be sure to read the Church Signs for some important thoughts, and then You Know You’re in a Redneck Church if …. for your comedy for the day.
We had a number of prayer requests today. Pastor Don asked for prayers for Patty Sanders whose son died this week, and his funeral will be held next Saturday, March 1, at 2:30 PM at Williams-Thomas West funeral home on Roue 241. Larry Noegel ask for prayers for Mickey Milam who fell and broke his hip last November, and is now hospitalized again with another broken hip. Ron Marks asked for prayers for Lynda Knight and her family in the death of her husband Jim on Saturday morning. Francis Bush asked for prayers for the Pope who is seriously ill.
Pastor Don announced that on March 23, we will have a church Hymn Sing instead of a sermon. Tina is collecting the names of members favorite Christian songs, and she will decide on how many songs we can sing, and which will be sung by our choir and others by everyone in attendance that day.
Pastor Don led off today’s sermon by sharing examples of how we need to take care of small problems before they inevitably become large problems for us. He based his message on the following verse of scripture:
Jeremiah 2:13 – “For My people have committed two evils: they have abandoned Me, the fountain of living waters, to carve out for themselves cisterns, broken cisterns that do not hold water.
This scripture tells us that His people have both abandoned Jesus, and created broken cisterns that can hold no water. Don asserts that God is the living water that we need, and he then asks us are we believing in a true God or a broken cistern? He then concludes with the following scripture:
Romans 3:23 – for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
We know that we all have failed God at times. The key for each of us is to choose God as our living water! If you would like to listen to this sermon, all recorded sermons can be accessed at https://gainesvillecovenantchurch.org/ and then choose Sermons on the home page, and then choose today’s message.
I wish you all a most blessed week!
Ron
