Covenant Update

Dear Covenant Family:

Today we had 27 attendees at our church service.  The sermon was given by Kevin Griffin, a long time local businessman and friend of many at Covenant Church.  He provided an excellent message on Leaving a Legacy and challenged us in a number of ways to draw closer to God and to follow His plan for us in our daily lives.  He continued a theme that Tina and I have both been discussing for many weeks now, and Kevin left each of us with paper and envelopes to write letters to 5 people that we need to communicate with and to love on.  Those of you who were unable to be at church today can do the same thing – you just need to provide your own paper and envelopes!!!  Do you accept his challenge???

It was also great to see Teresa Robbins back today, she just passed the 2-week celebration of her 2nd shot, so she said she has graduated now and can return to church.  Mary Lou Morrow also returned after a lengthy time away and it was good to see her as well.  In addition to Teresa getting her 2nd COVID shot, Joe and Rose Morgan and Carl and Shirley also graduated from COVID Vaccine University, so we are seeing our numbers grow of members getting the needed vaccine and returning to church.  It was great to see Carl and Shirley again, and at the end of our church service Carl gave the following message to the Covenant flock:

In life we sometimes come up with situations we cannot change.  That is what has happened to me.  After 3 months of physical decline, I encountered a situation that I cannot change.  My primary doctor, a strong Roman Catholic, pulled together all of my reports and asked, “Tell me Pastor Carl, are you still sermonizing?”  To which I replied “yes”, he sat by me and said “I am sorry to say this but you MUST resign!  This is not an option.  Do you hear me, you MUST resign.”  So following his advice, I have submitted my resignation to the Trustees and now to the members and friends of Covenant Church.  Shirley and my prayers will be with you as you as you seek God’s will concerning leadership for Covenant.  I will be providing my final service at Covenant on March 7.  I realize that God will never forsake or leave us as we seek his guidance and will.

Pastor Carl

Today’s church bulletin and current newsletter from the King Ministry in Ghana are attached for your viewing pleasure.

Remember that this month’s ministry is Gainesville Community Ministries, who with God’s help, seeks to provide compassionate emergency care for those persons who cannot help themselves. We further seek to provide, through education and support, the kind of assistance that will encourage those who can be helped to end a cycle of poverty and despair.  If you would like to make a specific donation to this important local ministry, please write GCM on your check or with your cash donation.

Ron Marks will provide next Sunday’s sermon as a tribute to the career of our Pastor Carl.  May God continue to bless Covenant Church!!
