Dear Covenant Family:
Today was a chilly, rainy morning but it was warm inside. We had 27 attendees and a very nice service. Please see the attached bulletin for relevant announcements.
Today was Rose Morgan’s birthday, so we sang to her. Then, someone (Missy Mauldin !) told us tomorrow is Pastor Don’s birthday. So we also sang to him. If you want to wish either of them a Happy Birthday, please feel free to do so.
Pastor Don’s sermon was titled Don’t Try It Alone and the scripture was from Ecclesiastes,
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 – Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor; 10 for if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to the one who falls when there is not another to lift him up! 11 Furthermore, if two lie down together they keep warm, but how can one be warm alone? 12 And if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart.
Pastor Don started his sermon by noting that so much of the Bible has common sense information for us, especially the books of Proverbs, Psalms, and Ecclesiastes that if you read it and “if you let it settle in, you’ll be OK”. He said a person can choose to spectate or participate, but that we should choose to read the Bible and choose to participate in life. There are some things in life it may be best to do alone, but for most things you will have a better result if you work together with someone else or a team of people – like your church family.
Pastor Don told the story of a stranger he had just met who was distraught over a business calamity he just experienced. The man was on the verge of suicide, but Don told him that no problem was too big if God is with you. Don said that later that man started attending Don’s church, and Don learned that the man brought God into his life and salvaged his business and became very successful. He couldn’t begin to handle his major life problem himself but he could with God by his side. We too need others in our life to help keep us both warm and safe.
Pastor Don also gave the example of our monthly church ministries. He told how one individual contribution may not seem like much to that giver, but the end result from a team of people working together does a lot of good for a lot of people in need. It is important when we give that our heart is to help others, not to seek any personal glory.
I wish you all a most blessed and, hopefully, warmer week!
