Dear Covenant Family:
Today was a great day at Covenant. We had 38 folks in attendance, attached is today’s bulletin for your information. Note that The Covenant Valentine’s Day dinner will be held on Sunday, February 11 at 5 PM, and it will be a prime rib dinner. The church is providing the dinner at no expense to anyone attending, so please plan to be there for this dinner. We realize the Super Bowl is that Sunday evening, so the plans are to allow folks to dine and still be home for Super Bowl kickoff if they wish. If you would still like to make a reservation, please contact Tina Pinkoson at tinapinkoson@gmail.com no later than this Wednesday.
Prayer requests were asked for a good friend of Larry Noegel who died recently, and for a friend who was hospitalized for brain surgery for a brain bleed. Francis Bush asked for prayers for Taylor Simmons, a young man and long time friend of Covenant Church who has Covid 19. Tina Pinkoson asked for prayers for her friend Kim Haddow who was traveling to Florida for the funeral of her nephew who committed suicide.
A number of praise requests were also raised today. Missy had a praise for a lady we have recently prayed for who is now out of the hospital and doing much better. Sam Parker had a praise for the negative biopsy he received this week. Craig Alexander had a praise request for the healthy child born to Lindsay Miller this week (Michelle’s daughter). Also, Pastor Don announced today that the family of Edwina Hope are planning a Celebration of Life for her in the next few weeks. They want to allow time for Edwina’s out-of-the-area family to be able to come to Gainesville for the event. Details will be announced to Covenant Church members as soon as they are available.
Pastor Don’s sermon today was inspired by Edwina’s family who said that she had a song for every occasion. That reminded Don of a song that he remembered that was sung by Johnny Lee titled Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places. That also led him to his scripture for this sermon:
Jeremiah 2:13 – For My people have committed two evils: they have abandoned Me, the fountain of living waters, to carve out for themselves cisterns, broken cisterns that do not hold water.
Pastor Don spoke of people who spend a lifetime looking, and yet never find what they are looking for. These people choose to forsake God and replace Him with “cisterns” that are ineffective storage containers for life-giving water. If you weren’t able to be at church today, I would highly recommend listening to his sermon. Pastor Don’s sermon can be accessed at https://gainesvillecovenantchurch.org/ and then choose Sermons on the home page, and then choose the sermon you want to hear. You will also be able to hear the Sound of Hope anthem for today. Finally, note the message Tina has included in today’s bulletin titled Trust, which ties in nicely with today’s sermon.
If you remember the song by Johnny Lee that Pastor Don mentioned and would like to hear it, the sone below:
I wish everyone a most blessed week!
Ron
