Dear Covenant Family:
Today was a good day at Covenant with 30 attendees. Attached is today’s bulletin, please note the announcements on the second page. We had a friend of Pastor Don with us today who led our music and sang a special song. It was a pleasure having Carolyn Turner and her husband Tom with us to provide special music since Tina was unable to be with us today.
The scripture for Pastor Don’s sermon was Romans 1:14-16.
Romans 1:14-16 – I am under obligation both to Greeks and to the uncultured, both to the wise and to the foolish. 15 So, for my part, I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome. 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
The scripture starts with Paul, who knew all the Law and was a special Pharisee to many because of his position. Yet here he declares he must preach to both the wise (his people) and the foolish (the Gentiles). Paul had learned that we need to love everybody, that we are not better than anyone else around us. That is also the lesson we all must learn, to be consistent in our message and our love for others. Those with more education and more worldly possessions are just as lost as the homeless on our streets. We, like Paul, as Christians, have a responsibility to share God’s Word with others we come across, not just our good Christian friends.
In verse 15, Paul expresses his desire to tell the Romans. He places no conditions on where and when he will talk with them, and neither should we. We cannot wait for the right conditions or better weather or opportunity, we should be going forward now. In verse 16, Pastor Don tells us that Paul is not ashamed to tell the Jews that God loves you and that they need to believe that the Savior has come.
Don asked each of us to make a New Year’s resolution to talk to someone about coming to Christ and to know Him like Paul has done.
Happy New Year to all! May you have most blessed week!!
Ron
