Covenant TGIF Message from Ron 11/6/2020

TGIF

Another Friday is here, and boy do we all need TGIF this week!!!  The long awaited Presidential election is over………. or is it?

The long COVID pandemic is still with us, and if it hadn’t already messed up our lives enough, now it has brought new challenges and difficulties to us in our voting system.  The end result is we are now still waiting on naming a new President due to many legal challenges going on.  Will this insanity in our lives ever end?

Tina’s Wednesday message was perfect in using scripture to show us how to prepare for and respond to an election.  God’s Word is always clear and correct.  It also pointed out to all of us our own flaws in getting upset, angry, depressed when things may not go our way.  Note that shortly, half of America will be happy with whatever result occurs, and half will not.  It’s not that half will be right, and half will be wrong, just that we will react emotionally different from others around us, but others are just as equally allowed to think differently, vote differently, and express themselves differently than I may do.  So I would also like to share some scripture, as did Tina, to maybe ease your minds a bit whether you voted Democrat or Republican in this election cycle.

Romans 15:7 – Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.

Just as Tina’s scripture showed, I believe this verse says it all.  In spite of all my sins and very flawed thoughts, Jesus Christ has forgiven me and accepted me with His grace and love – WOW!!  I don’t deserve His forgiveness, yet He freely gives it to me!  So how can I not show that same grace and love to my own family members, friends and neighbors, and also strangers, who may have viewed this election through a different lens than I used???????  Who am I to judge them??  The answer is I should not be judging others if I don’t want to be judged in the same light.

Ephesians 4:31 – 5:2 – Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. 5 Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

I need to calm down, and relax, and show compassion to others regardless of the circumstances.  Relax, and know that God is still in control!!

Matthew 11:29 – Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

I need to chill out!!  Jesus is constantly offering me rest for my soul and peace in my heart.  All I have to do is lean on Him, and let my burdens fall away

Matthew 5:16 – In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Please Jesus, guide me that that I may show my light to others, that I can turn from my darkness and declare that God is good …… all the time!!!!  And that all the time ….. God is good!!!!  Finally, let me borrow again from my dear friend Tina and finish with song, one of my favorites sung by our incredible ensemble, which sums it all up very nicely for today.  God bless you all, and may God continue to bless our country!!

A Little More Like You

Grant me your holiness                            Make me devoted deep within

I plead for patience in my trials             And more sorrow for my sin

A deeper faith in you                                Dear Lord, please give me everyday

Let me find joy in my journey                 And more purpose when I pray

This is my prayer                                        Lord, when this day is through

Was I a little less like me                          And a little more like you

My lone desire                                            In all I say or do

Was I a little less like me                          And a little more like you

Give me more gratitude                           Help me to love you even more

And take pride only in your glory          And trust only in your word

Let me shed sorrow’s tears                     When others pain, when others grieve

And may my neighbor please see Jesus           Every time that they see me

This is my prayer                                        Lord, when this day is through

Was I a little less like me                          And a little more like you

My lone desire                                            In all I say or do

Was I a little less like me                          And a little more like you

This is my prayer                                        Lord, when this day is through

Was I a little less like me                          And a little more like you

Was I a little less like me                          And a little more like you
