Covenant TGIF Message from Ron

While we were in DC the past two weeks, I heard my favorite country song on Shelli’s radio, yes she has the same great taste in music as her father!!  That song is Remember When written and sung by Alan Jackson, my favorite country singer.  That song describes his relationship with his wife and how they made it together through very difficult times.

As I listened to the words that day, I realized how that song described so many of our lives.  Many of us have shared the highs and lows of our lives together in marriage, and have used these times to grow stronger in our marriages, raising children, and in our faith.  So I decided to simply share Alan’s own words from this song with you today as I couldn’t explain this any better than I believe that he has.  So please take a few minutes to read this love letter from Alan to his wife.  They had some difficult times in their life walk together as many couples do, but they managed to get through the difficult times.  Here are the words from Remember When!

Remember when, I was young and so were you, And time stood still and love was all we knew
You were the first, so was I, We made love and then you cried, Remember when.

Remember when, We vowed the vows and walked the walk, Gave our hearts, made the start, and it was hard
We lived and learned, life threw curves, There was joy, and there was hurt, Remember when
.

Remember when, Old ones died and the new were born, And life was changed, disassembled, rearranged
We came together, fell apart, And broke each other’s hearts, Remember when
.

Remember when,  The sound of little feet, Was the music we danced to week to week
Brought back the love, we found trust, Vowed we’d never give it up, Remember when
.

Remember when, Thirty seemed so old, Now looking back, it’s just a stepping stone
To where we are, where we’ve been, Said we’d do it all again, Remember when.

Remember when, We said when we turned gray, When the children grow up and move away
We won’t be sad, we’ll be glad, For all the life we’ve had, And we’ll remember when
.

I know some of you are not country music fans, or Alan Jackson fans, because you have told me so!  However, I don’t think those facts detract from the significance of this music, because I believe it so beautifully describes the life paths of many of us who have shared our lives with loving families whether or not we had a spouse, biological children, or adopted children because it describes our walk and the positive growth and natural setbacks we have all experienced throughout a lifetime of love and life.  I hope you remember all your memories shared in this song even if Alan Jackson or country music is not your favorite music!
