Covenant Church Update

Dear Covenant Family:

Today was a great day at Covenant, we had about 40 people for our church service and about 55 people for our July 4 luncheon immediately after church.  The hamburgers, hot dogs, and baked beans were excellent, and many thanks to Joe Morgan and Lee Pinkoson for preparing them for us.  We also had an overload of excellent desserts prepared by the many great bakers in the Covenant family!  Also thanks to Becky and Craig Alexander and Rose Morgan for a great setup of the church for this event.  A great time was had by everyone and thanks to everyone involved in the cleanup afterwards.

Attached is the church bulletin from today’s service.  Please note that our church ministry for July is the local school Food for Kids Backpack Program in which needy children in the local schools can get food for weekends so they do not go hungry.  This has been a long time successful ministry program for Alachua County schools and Covenant Church is proud to have participated for many years.  Note this July is also a month with five Sundays, so we also need to provide the cleaning and paper supplies for Pine Grove and toiletries for Newberry High School.  Tina also included a great July 4 poem in the bulletin, be sure to check it out.

We had a number of prayer requests today.  Tina Pinkoson asked for prayers for a family member of her secretary Carolyn who fell and hit her head and is in serious condition in the hospital.  Prayers are needed while the doctors evaluate her situation and hope that she can recover.  Larry Noegel asked for prayers for a friend who was in the NICU unit at a local hospital and is still there after complications from the surgery.  Victoria McArthur asked for prayers for a friend who went for care for a scratch on her leg and is now near death and on a ventilator; the woman also has four small children.  Anita Minck asked for prayers for Terry, a friend in her singing group.  Carolyn Sanders asked for prayers for a childhood friend who currently is dealing with heart failure.  Brenda Dolwick asked for prayers for Frank’s cousin Jake who is in the hospital to receive a pacemaker.  Finally, Pastor Don asked for prayers for his neighbor’s mother-in-law.

We also had a number of prayer praises.  Pastor Don announced that the family expecting a baby who had been told the child would likely be born with Down’s syndrome had their baby, and it was born perfectly healthy.  It was also good having Victoria McArthur back in church after a long recovery from a knee replacement.   Tina also praised the great smell throughout the church from all the cooking being done in the kitchen during church.

Pastor Don’s sermon was based on the July 4 celebration our nation is celebrating.  His scripture was based on Revelations 2:1-5, and Godly principles from that scripture that relate to July 4.  You can listen to Pastor Don’s sermon by going to https://gainesvillecovenantchurch.org/, and clicking on Sermons.

I wish you all a very blessed July 4 holiday with your family and friends.  May God continue to bless Covenant Church.
