Dear Covenant Family:
Today we had a very nice church service, with 34 folks in attendance. Note that our May ministry is the Arbor House in Gainesville. Also, we sent $1,695 to the King Ministry in Ghana, thanks to all who contributed to this April ministry. This month, because May has 5 Sundays, we will also be providing paper goods and cleaning materials to Pine Grove, so please bring in your goods for donation to Pine Grove.
Attached is today’s bulletin, please note the message Tina added titled Unite. That message goes along perfectly with Tina’s weekly Shine! Shine !! Shine!! message.
We had a number of Prayer Requests today and, surprisingly, all were made for young folks, I believe between one year and 19 years old (maybe a bit older). So please remember to pray for these young friends and family members of our Covenant members.
Pastor Don’s sermon was titled Seen, Heard, or Imagined, and his scripture was 1 Corinthians 2:1-9. In our world today, Pastor Don shared that people don’t get still and quiet enough to hear about God or from God. Noone takes time to sit outside in the quiet and darkness of the night anymore to learn about the things that God has in store for us, but we have not yet seen.
1 Corinthians 2:1-2 – And when I came to you, brothers and sisters, I did not come as someone superior in speaking ability or wisdom, as I proclaimed to you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.
In these first verses, Paul tells the Corinthians that he is not smarter or superior to them in any way, except that he knows the truth as reported in the simple scripture of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection.
1 Corinthians 2:3-5 – I also was with you in weakness and fear, and in great trembling, 4 and my message and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 so that your faith would not rest on the wisdom of mankind, but on the power of God.
Our faith needs to rest on the power of God rather than on the wisdom of man.
1 Corinthians 2:9 – but just as it is written: “Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, and which have not entered the human heart, all that God has prepared for those who love Him.”
God speaks to us in ways others haven’t spoken to us, and He is speaking individually to each of us. He is sharing the wisdom that He has prepared especially for those who love Him. God will take eternal care of “those who love Him”. Paul certainly had a tough life as a disciple and one might say bad luck, but yet he continued to praise God. So be sure to listen to God and for God and know that He will be there on time for you.
May each of you have a very blessed week.
Ron
