Boo! It’s Wednesday

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”            2 Timothy 1:7

It’s that time of year again, pumpkins on porches, candy aisles that seem to stretch for miles, and neighborhoods full of over-the-top Halloween decorations.

Some Halloween decorations can make you jump! A skeleton that talks? A ghost that floats? A spider the size of a basketball? I have a spooky looking butler that my grandson William makes me put a napkin over its face. But here’s the thing: as Christians, we don’t have to fear the dark, the spooky, or even the unknown. Why? Because we know who holds the light.

Fear is like those fake cobwebs on porches. It looks real, but it’s flimsy and can be brushed away with a little truth from God’s Word. When fear creeps in, we can remember that God didn’t give us a spirit of fear. Instead, He fills us with courage, love, and wisdom and that’s far more powerful than any ghoul or goblin.

So this Halloween, as you hand out candy or sneak a few pieces yourself (I won’t tell!), take a moment to thank God for being your light in every dark place. Let His love shine so brightly that others can see there’s nothing to be afraid of; because His perfect love casts out all fear.

And remember, jack-o’-lanterns glow from the inside out,  just like we do when Jesus lives in our hearts.

Shine, Shine, Shine!
